Freshman Adivce
By Michelle Urman, Class of 2016
-
School is important but do not spend all your time studying.
-
Join clubs and teams to at least try it out, you may find something you enjoy.
-
Respect the upperclassmen and try to make friends with them.
-
Try to keep up with your work, it will be harder to catch up once you're behind.
-
Appropriate your time between work and your social life.
-
Ask for help, teachers are here to help and teach you.
-
Leave your comfort zone.
-
Talk to people you have never talked to before.
-
Look presentable but don't spend more time on your image than studying.
-
Ask a teacher if you can eat in class before bringing in food. Same with gum.
-
Try not to get detention- arrive to davening on time.
-
Make good first impressions.
-
Don't allow your friends to define who you are. Break away from them if they don't accept you for you.
-
Don't be so desperate to fit in, it is not important in the long run.
-
Hallways are meant for walking, not congregating.
-
With backpacks, choose durability over cuteness.
-
Try to take a cool gym class rather than regular PE.
-
Be polite with your teachers, they will be nice back.
-
Don’t get too upset if the upperclassmen don’t want to hang out with you. You will be an upperclassman sooner or later.
-
It is freshman year, and you should not get too bogged down by a few mistakes.
